Depending on the timing, NASA could launch a fresh crew to the space station while four other astronauts are flying around the moon.

A group of astronauts has returned to Earth in a Pacific Ocean splashdown, in the first-ever medical evacuation carried out by NASA. The decision cut the team's mission short by over a month, following their launch into space in August.

"Awards like these are a critical component of our incubator program for future missions, which combines government leadership with commercial innovation to make what is impossible today rapidly implementable in the future," said Shawn Domagal-Goldman, director of NASA's Astrophysics Division in the statement.

Eric and Wendy Schmidt are backing a start-up-like approach to building a giant space telescope and powerful ground observatories.

The James Webb Space Telescope captured infrared light from a black hole and gave scientists unprecedented insights into the object's structure.

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt and his wife, Wendy, recently announced that they would finance, out of their own pocket, a number of new observatories, including a space telescope dubbed “Lazuli.” Lazuli will be a replacement for the Hubble Space Telescope, which is due to end its operational life in the early 2030s.

The goal is for Lazuli to probe exoplanet atmospheres around sun-like stars, model supernovae, study the Hubble Tension, and complement upcoming missions like NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope.
