MapQuest appears to be poking fun at President Trump's recent rebranding of the Gulf of America. Some social media users are giving it their own spin.

The Gulf of Mexico is now called the Gulf of America for Google Maps users in the United States, keeping with the terms of President Trump's controversial executive order to rename the body of water.

MapQuest has launched a whimsical feature titled “Name your own gulf,” allowing users to creatively rename the Gulf of Mexico on their maps. This feature emerged in response to recent changes by major mapping services like Google Maps,

The name change to Gulf of America is the first since the 1540s where various maps referred to it as the Mexican Gulf, Golpho de la Nueva España, and, finally Gulf of Mexico.

Apple has changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America on its maps after an order by President Donald Trump was made official by the U.S.

While Google has updated its map feature to read "Gulf of America," MapQuest won't be doing the same, allowing users to rename it themselves.

Well, MapQuest is not only still around, but we've actually got a reason to use it in 2025. Sort of. If you go to a special Gulf of Mexico-themed part of MapQuest, you can type in anything you want, and it'll generate a map that renames the Gulf of Mexico after whatever you typed in.
