The NYC area is bracing for a major winter storm that's set to hit the region with heavy snow on top of dangerous, subfreezing weather.

The final path of the storm remains uncertain, but some models are predicting a lot of snow in the city, and the warnings have already begun.

What to Know Preliminary forecasts show 8-12 inches of snow can be expected for much of the tri-state area, including New York City, the Hudson Valley, nearly all of New Jersey and into Connecticut; areas along the coast may see slightly lower totals,

New York City subways and buses will keep running throughout the weekend snowstorm, the MTA said. NJ Transit, however, warned of possible suspensions.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani on Friday assured New Yorkers the city is ready for its first major snowstorm in years, promising plowed streets and, if needed, a remote school day for public school students on Monday.
