NEW YORK — The toll of wildfires is usually counted in acres burnt, property destroyed and lives lost to smoke and flames.

Victims of the Aug. 2023 Maui wildfires have shown signs of long-term physical and mental health issues, research shows. CBS News' Shanelle Kaul has more details.

An 18-year-old man died while hiking in the Hana Highway in Maui. Rescuers had to reach him by helicopter due to the location and height of the 120-foot waterfall.
