WNBA Star Sophie Cunningham Defends Player Who Injured Her Knee After Mom Posts Angry Tweet
The team said they signed guard Shey Peddy to a seven-day hardship contract "in a corresponding move" to deal with Cunningham's injury. Star Fever player Caitlin Clark is also still dealing with a groin injury and has missed 22 games this season.
After Cunningham went down with a tough knee injury during the two teams' game on Sunday, Mabrey was one of the first people to run toward the Fever star with an outstretched towel in hand — ready and prepared to shield her from cameras and fans while the team figured out how serious the injury was.
In the wake of the knee injury the Fever guard suffered on Sunday, Cunningham's sister, Lindsey, posted a tweet criticizing the WNBA for not protecting its players. Another social media user later re-shared Lindsey's tweet with a video of Sophie committing a flagrant foul attached...as well as a pointed message of the user's own.
