One of the oldest buildings in Old Sacramento and one of the first coffee businesses in Sacramento was the Star Coffee and Spice Mills owned by Nathaniel Dingley. Dingley, a tradesman from Boston, came to California in 1850 for the Gold Rush. He bought the failed Star Mill coffee business near Front and I Streets at public auction but in 1852, the coffee business burned in the Great Conflagration on November 2nd along with 80 percent of the buildings in Sacramento.
