May 7th this year is National Skilled Trades Day! This day honors those in who work in trade professions and their skills that help build and benefit society. For today, Howard used an antique printing press to letterpress print a halftone of an image of a more modern press, highlighting the skilled trade of printing. Preparing the 10x15 Chandler & Price jobbing press for a press run. Howard is using black rubber base ink to print some posters that include an image of himself. This is the standard way to apply ink to make sure an even layer of ink is on the ink disk and rollers. Once an even layer is established, then the form is placed on the bed of the press and printing can commence.
