Today's high tide in the Harkers Island Visitor Center parking lot and boat basin. The tide has been pushed by the wind into the road and it covers the boat ramp from the boat basin to the road. Beach Renourishment Underway! Our Keepers Quarters volunteers took this short video last night as the work crews started to pass in front of the building. We expect that the crew will wrap up this portion of the project in the coming days. In total, we estimate about 40,000 cubic yards of sand will be deposited on the lighthouse beach. The last time that renourishment took place was back in 2006, with just over 70,000 cubic yards deposited at that time. Why less sand than last time? Back in 2006
