Lahaina, how it currently looks after the devastating fire of 2023. Here’s a detailed update on the Lahaina (Maui) wildfire of August 8, 2023 and where things stand now: What happened & scale of damage • The wildfire in Lahaina began on August 8, 2023, driven by dry conditions and strong winds. • It devastated much of historic Lahaina, destroying more than 2,200 structures (homes, commercial buildings, cultural landmarks) and causing an estimated USD $5.5 billion in damage. • At least 102 people
